Two Amazing Events This Week!!


This Wednesday, Feb 25th at 11am- Comics artist and illustrator Cara McGee will be swinging by Jackie's Mini comics class and talking self promo, tabling at conventions, and what have you! She's always out and about the con circuit so take this chance to ask any questions you may have!

This Friday, Feb 27th at 2pm - SEQA kids Em Helen Barnard and Mittie Paul will be showing how to make a mini comic! Formatting, printing, all that jazz! Good if you're not familiar or need a brush up on the basics, these talented cats can show you the in's and out's of mini-making.

Student Spotlight: Ben Tong


Ben Tong is an Animation Major and a SEQA Minor. He loves making comics and has a style unique to him! Challenging himself with warped perspectives and even more warped characters, his sense of design and personal tastes shine through in his drawing. 
He's not exactly sure when or how it started – maybe it was after reading Captain Underpants – but he distinctly remember trying to pull off a comic with a friend in the fourth grade. The story was along the lines of chickens and roosters from outer space taking their long-term war on San Francisco – apparently his friend and him disregarded gender, so we had chickens (the good guys) facing off the roosters (the bad guys). It wasn’t until he picked up Jeff Smith’s Bone in the 5th grade that he found himself stepping into a larger world. Smith’s work was gorgeous. As a fifth grader he had no idea comics could be so beautiful (compared to Captain Underpants). It was from that point on that he decided to be more serious about it.
His inspirations are ranged! Jeff Smith was one of the biggest inspirations for him getting into comics. He also a big fan of Jake Parker, Stan Sakai, Akira Toriyama, Skottie Young, and Inoue Takehiko’s work. For those of you that don’t know any one of them, you should go check them out!

Lee Loughridge visiting SCAD!

This coming week we'll have our SEQA Alumni Mentor Mr. Lee Loughridge visiting campus and classes. Here are the sessions that will be open to everyone:


Tues. Feb 3 6:40pm - 7:30pm rm 389 - Meet n' Greet

Wed. Feb 4 2:00pm - 3:00pm rm 389 - Professional Practices Discussion (during Prof. Dabbs, SEQA 215 class)
Thurs. Feb 5 1:30pm - 2:30pm rm 389 - Coffee, snacks and Farewell


Some come on down! Say hi to this cool cat, learn a little (a whole lot) about Professional Practices, and get some coffee! Alumni are welcome too!
