Student Spotlight: Brittany Heiner

Our Spotlight this week is a hardworking SEQA graduate student with a great attitude and top notch management skills. Brittany brings a positive attitude to everything she works on and works hard on it!! She carries herself as a professional, being kind, cool, and collected both in and out of working situations.

After finishing her illustration undergrad at Brigham Young University, she spent several years at a crafting company called Provo Craft, working as a cartridge content designer for their Cricut die-cutting machine. Her favorite part was working on licensed material, getting to play with vector art from Disney, Sanrio, Sesame Street, Nickelodeon, and Warner Bros. She even got to visit the Warner Bros HQ in Burbank and meet some of their licensing execs. If you pick up the Superman Cricut cartridge, you'll find the font included is her handwriting! (like in the below example that someone posted online)

Ultimately, she wants to tell stories as a novelist and graphic novelist. Her current pet project is an adaptation she is doing of a Scarlet Pimpernel short story ("Fie, Sir Percy"), and She is hoping to pick back up soon with her webcomic, "Muse: the Hero Next Door." (www.muse-comic.com) Her inspirations are a mix of comics and illustration including Wendy Pini (Elfquest), Gurihiru, John Byrne (Uncanny X-Men), Jody Lee, Drew Struzan, Bill Peet, JC Leyendecker, CLAMP, Keith Parkinson, Larry Elmore, Jim Lee, and Ryan Ottley.

To keep up with Brittany's work be sure to check out her blog and be sure to check out her webcomic, mentioned above!
